Explore the history of the region by visiting some of the impressive castles built to subdue the Welsh by Edward I. You can see even older castles built by Prince Llywelyn the Great in the northern part of west Wales. Wales' industrial history can be explored through a selection of quarries, slate caverns and gold and copper mines as well as a remarkable variety of preserved steam railways, which in many cases grew up to serve the slate industry and transport slate to the coast.

One of the most striking things about west Wales is its beautiful coastline, which can be enjoyed from land or sea. The more adventurous can enjoy surfing, horse riding or parascending, but the glorious beaches can be just as enjoyable if you prefer walking or swimming. You can see wildlife at the coastline, including seals and dolphins, by taking a boat trip along the Gower coast or Cardigan Bay.

West Wales boasts countryside and coast that varies from the picturesque to the ruggedly beautiful. Ancient towns and villages are alive with Welsh culture and history such as St. Davids and Aberystwyth and quirky tourist attractions like the Italianate village of Portmeirion. What more could you hope for from a self catering holiday than the delights that await you in west Wales?
